Maui No Ka Oi - Beaches we visited

Maui boasts some of the most sun bather friendly beaches especially on the leeward side of the island. During our seven day stay we visited a number of them. There are so many more that we did not get to visit and they will surely keep us coming back. By the way, visited = feet on sand.

Black Rock Beach

Just north of Kaanapali Beach and situated by the Sheraton Kaanapali, we watched the cliff divers jumping off the Black Rock and soaked in the Luau vibe by the Sheraton.

Kaanapali Beach

Sunset by Kaanapali Beach, we can always return for that.

Big Beach at Makena State Park

One of the largest and undeveloped beaches in Maui, it had the complete opposite vibe of the hustle and bustle of Kaanapali Beach.

Wailea Beach

Tucked behind the Four Seasons, it almost felt like a private beach. But all the beaches in the state of Hawaii are public. We were always able to find public parking and beach access even next to exclusive establishments such as the Four Seasons.

Maluaka Beach or a.k.a Turtle Town

Known for spotting sea turtles, we had to check it out for ourselves. This was Grandma's favorite.

Ulua Beach

A small beach located at Wailea. We brought poke and tacos from South Maui Fish Co there for an afternoon beach picnic.

Black Sand Beach at Waianapanapa State Park

Located at Mile Marker 32 of the Hana Highway, the Black Sand Beach is an essential stop for the Road to Hana. We had to make a reservation in advance.

After several days on the island, we realized that it is best to visit the beaches in the morning rather than in the afternoon. The trade wind from the north picks up in mid afternoon and it would get really windy.

Our attempt to go to Kaluaihakoko Beach by Kamaole I Park thwarted by the afternoon trade wind. We ended up at Wailea Beach
