New York City 2022 - Chinatown morning & Harlem night

Our plan was to visit both Barnard College of Columbia University (2:30 pm tour) and Columbia University (4:00 pm tour) today. Since our first scheduled tour was not until 2:30 pm, we figured we had time for dim-sum in Chinatown and perhaps even time to walk The High Line afterwards.

The sun is almost coming out

After sipping hot tea and enjoying our dim-sum brunch to wait out the rain, we headed to Chelsea Market again since the stores were closed when we visited it two days ago. We walked from Chinatown through Tribeca to Canal St. Blue Line station to get on the subway to Chelsea Market.

Back at the Market in mid-day

We spent about an hour in the market trying to shop for some souvenirs and browsing the various food stalls. After getting another cup of coffee and a bit of gelato, we fought the thick crowd of people out of the market and eventually found the entrance to the High Line to take a mid-day walk uptown.

At the end of the walk, we made it to 30 Hudson Yards. We made a short pit stop at Shake Shack and Magnolia Bakery before our 2:30 pm tour at Barnard uptown. We made it to Barnard slightly pass 2:30 pm due to a mistake of attempting to get on the subway at Penn Station (too long of a walk from 30 Hudson Yards).

After concluding the Columbia campus tour, we made it to Sylvia's at Harlem for dinner and ended our night in no other place than Time Square.

Previous

There was a subway attack in Brooklyn that day. We heard the police siren in the morning and saw helicopters over Manhattan in the afternoon in search of the suspect. We were warned by our family to not take the subway that day. However, we continued to ride the public transportation that day and the following day after this incident.

In our perspective, we believe New York City is a city that can always stand up for itself in the face of challenges and terrors. We will continue to stand by with New York City in the face of challenges and terror and will continue to ride the public transportation to show our support for the great people of New York City.
