Our departing flight was at 10:00 am today (4/13/22). The sensible thing to do would be to pack and head straight to the airport. However, there was one more stop on the agenda - The Brooklyn Roasting Company.
The local coffee roasting company once had several store including one in Dumbo. However, the only remaining store as of April 2022 was the one located at 200 Flushing Ave in the Navy Yard neighborhood.
After getting up early to pack, we took a short 10 minute Uber ride through the neighborhood streets and made it to the store shortly before 7:00 am.
We ordered a few items and picked up a few cans of the Mocha Java to bring back as gifts. We were ready to head out to JFK within 30 minutes. However, when we checked the Uber rate to JFK, it was well over $130 without tips. At that moment, we decided to take a short Uber ride to Atlantic Terminal Station to catch the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to JFK.
There was a $5 special rate leaving and coming from Atlantic Terminal so we were trying to purchase this ticket from the vending machine. We ended up still buying the wrong tickets so had to return the tickets at the booth and repurchase the correct ticket from the experienced ticketing agent at the booth.
The train was leaving at 8:30 am and would arrive at Jamaica Station shortly before 9:00 am. After we arrive at Jamaica Station we would have to take the AirTrain from Jamaica Station to terminal 7 where our flight was departing from. This transit ordeal, though much cheaper than Uber, was cutting quite close to our departing time. At the end, we made it on time with bathroom time to spare.
New York City is one of those destinations that is constantly evolving. We hope to visit NYC in the future again.
