London State of Mind - Flying a LCC-Norwegian Air Shuttle (Nov 2019)

LCC or Low Cost Carrier is an airline that emphasis on "no frill" and typically does not include any of the amenity a traditional airline would provide such as checked luggage or assigned seating on the most basic fares. Norwegian Air Shuttle (NAS) is such type of carrier. It started in the Norway as a regional carrier and rapidly expanded to international routes in the early 2010's.

We flew NAS or simply Norwegian on our trip to London in November 2019. We did not have checked luggage, meals or even water during flight, or even assigned seating since we purchased the most basic fares. We each had a carry on luggage which is our 40L backpack. Our backpack had to be weighed before boarding (total carry on luggage had to be less than 10 kg or 22.046 lbf) otherwise penalty fee would incur.

However, the flight had complimentary wifi plus a descent selection of IFE (in-flight-entertainment). I caught up with some of the 2019 hits, chatted with nearby passengers, and ate my own food during the 10 hour flight from LAX to London Gatwick.

At the time of this post (March 2021), due to covid, NAS had ceased all international operations, shares stopped being traded in Oslo Stock Exchange, and is currently under "examinership". We hope NAS can weather the storm and continue to provide cost efficient service to the trans-Atlantic market and take us to great destinations.
