Nepal Trip Day -1 - Packing Day (Thursday December 20, 2018)
It's not easy to travel at this time of the year...
We as a family are all tired from a full year worth of work, school, and taking care of the entire household.
We loaded the four carry on cases as usual with our trekking outfits (base layer, puff jackets, fleece, socks, and shoes). Jo and I went to Walmart to fill some last minute prescriptions for ourselves and MM.
MM was just getting over a respiratory infection. She has been taking Azithromycin the last four days. This sure worries the heck of us when we are about to embark on a trekking trip in high altitude in Nepal.
I bought two expedition style Northface 95L duffle bags earlier on in the year in preparation for this trip. The bags looked cool and I must have thought I was going to climb Mount Everest or something. I took out the four REI trekking backpacks we bought earlier on in the year. This is all looking too real to me now. WE ARE GOING TO NEPAL! I still cannot believe it. We loaded the red duffle entirely with food (We are the Chiu family after all!). A full 24 cases of cup o'noodles was loaded in the duffle along with Takis and numerous other items that will make the Himalayas feel a bit more like Brea California.
Throughout the day, Jo and I ran all over town to buy some last minute items (wipes, Visine, and other countless items).
We picked up MM and GG from their last day of school. MM looked like she was in good spirit. gg looked a bit tired and aloof. We did more packing and GG and MM did more piano and school work. They are still in school mode.
Jo made a wonderful dinner of pasta with baked chicken. The kids enjoyed it immensely. At around 6:30 we headed out to run some last minute errands at TJ, REI (last minute base layer for me and GG), and Target.
I checked my email and Sherpa (Pasang) got back to me on some questions that I had. I did what I should not do - checked the weather at Namche Bazaar. Looks like it will likely have "snow shower" around the days that we will be getting into Namche with temperature hovering around 30 to 9 F.
I tried to block this thought out of my head that our trip will be seriously impeded by the cold. The thought of the entire trip - the flight, the cold, the potentially treacherous hike along the way was weighing on me.
We closed down shop here past 10:00 pm or whatever the time was.

DeleteThank you for reading and commenting. Yes before this trip, I was quite worried about the cold, and it was indeed cold in the mountains!
