Key West Day 1 (Wednesday December 22, 2021) - Changing our latitude

We departed for our flight to Key West (with a short layover in Dallas) during the early morning hours on Wednesday December 22, 2021. Our ride picked us up at home at 3:30 am for our 5:30 am departure. Three out of four of us were fully boosted so we felt a bit better about traveling. However, with the emerging Omicron variant, we still took a risk to travel. We were flying from Ontario to Dallas, and Dallas to Key West. We had a family gathering on Tuesday so we did not finish packing until late into the night. We barely got a few hours of shut eye.

By the time we arrived in Key West, it was late in the afternoon. I had planned to use the city bus but for some reason the bus never came. After waiting for sometime we opted to just take Uber to our hotel - The Best Western Hibiscus located two blocks away from the Southern Most Point.

After catching the Uber ride to our hotel, it was already dark. The temperature felt pleasant with more humidity than we are used to. There was a bit of light rain coming down. Our only plan tonight was to get some good local food so we took a short walk to El Siboney, a family run Cuban restaurant within a few blocks of our hotel.

We waited in the light rain for about 40 minutes along with all the other tourists. The restaurant was very lively and busy. We ordered abundance of items and a Sangria to wash it all down. Afterwards we took another short walk to the CVS on Truman and Duval to get some supplies for the week and attempt to walk off some of the dinner.
