Our 10-day South-central Alaska itinerary

We had an adventured-filled 10 day itinerary during our June 2021 visit in South-central Alaska. 

On top of the Alyeska Tramway 

Day 1 (Friday 6/11):

Arrived at Anchorage via Ted Stevens International Airport in the early afternoon. After checking in to our accommodation, we shopped for supplies and had dinner. Call it a day early to get a goodnight rest.

Day 2 (Saturday 6/12):

Explored Girdwood area and Turnagain Arm. Had dinner back in Anchorage

Highlights: Alyeska Tramway and Winner Creek Trail

Day 3 (Sunday 6/13):

Explored Eklutna Lake area (Chugach State Park) and Denali Viewpoint South (Denali State Park) with a stop at Talkeetna for late late lunch

Highlights: Mountain bike ride in Eklutna Lake and seeing Denali Southpeak

Day 4 (Monday 6/14):

Explored the City of Anchorage via the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail 

Highlights: Biked 20+ miles in the city of Anchorage and seeing a moose and her calf on the bike trail

Day 5 (Tuesday 6/15):

Depart for Seward from Anchorage. Explored the small town of Whittier. Hiked the Portage Pass Trail and visited the Alaska Wild Life Conservation Center

Highlights: Lunch at the Inn at Whittier and seeing the immense Portage Glacier on the Portage Pass Trail hike

Day 6 (Wednesday 6/17): 

Sea kayak at Resurrection bay and explored downtown Seward and the Sea Life Center in the afternoon

Highlights: Our first ever sea kayaking experience!

Day 7 (Thursday 6/18):

Kenai Fjord National Park and dinner at Fox Island tour 

Highlights: Seeing the Aialik Glacier calving and pods of orcas by the glacier

Day 8 (Friday 6/19):

Return to Anchorage and visited the Exit Glacier (Kenai Fjord National Park) on the way out. Dinner back in Anchorage 

Highlights: Hiking the Exit Glacier Trail and seeing the Exit Glacier up close

Day 9 (Saturday 6/20):

Hiked the Flattop Mountain Trail of the Chugach State Park and enjoyed our farewell dinner on the day of summer solstice 

Highlights: Seeing the Anchorage area from the Chugach Mountain range and summer solstice 

Day 10 (Sunday 6/21):

Enjoyed the local coffee shop before catching our flight home

Admiring the Exit Glacier at Kenai Fjord National Park
