Iceland Day 1 - LAX to Reykjavik (June 24 - 25, 2017)
In June 2017, we embarked on the journey to the land of fire and ice. It was a great adventure for us every way. We departed home early in the morning to catch our JetBlue fight to Boston. We enjoyed jetBlue's service very much. Kids particularly enjoyed the on board unlimited snack. We arrived at Boston Logan in the early afternoon. We found a paid lounge and relaxed there until our departure time of 8:45 pm. We flew the Iceland flagship airline of Icelandair to Reykjavik Keflavik International Airport and arrived in Iceland at the crack of dawn.

After flying over the Ice Sheet of Greenland, we arrived at Keflavik International Airport early in the morning. Our self-guided tour was organized by Nordic Visitor. After arrival, we were greeted by our driver to be taken to our hotel-Hotel Fron in downtown Reykjavik. The sun was just coming up and we breathed in the fresh air of Iceland. We could not believe that we are actually here.
Since our flight arrived early in the morning, we had to wait at least until close to mid-day for our room to be ready. We were able to enjoy breakfast at the hotel lobby - The Scandinavian Restaurant and Bar. The kids took a short nap at the hotel lobby after breakfast. After checking into our suite, we all decided to take a shower and continue our jet-legged nap. Joanne found a laundry place just a short walk away from Hotel Fron. She did the laundry there while the rest of the tried to adjust to the jet leg. By early afternoon, we were ready to hit the town.

We'll explore Reykjavik from our hotel through the touristy Laugavegur Street. We know we have time on our hands because the there is no nighttime in Iceland during the time we were visiting. Joanne found the local favorite hot dog stand or pylsur and that was our first stop. As we headed out on Laugavegur Street there was some street festival with water slide and DJ. We were in puff jackets while the locals were in swimsuits and jumping in and out of the water slide.

After consuming a number of pylsur, we continued our walk in the direction of the major city landmark, the Hallgrimskirkja, the big church. En-route we encountered trolls and witches, the usual sights in Iceland.
